The bull of St Luke

THE GOSPEL OF LUKE

THE PASSION ACCORDING TO LUKE

Conspiracy Lk 22,1-6

Notice the introduction in verse 1 and the link between the two parts of the festival. Among a number of OT references, look at Leviticus 23,5-8 or Deuteronomy 16,1-8. Look at Exodus 12,1-27 for the historical significance. Which word is key up to verse 15?

Note how verse 2 is different to Mk 14,2; look at 21,38 to see why. See also 20,19 The point is repeated in verse 6.

For verse 3, look back to 4,13. See also 6,16 and note as well Acts 1,15-20. John's Gospel makes the same point: Jn 13,27. Note how Judas is introduced here and in 20,47.

For the group in verse 4, look at 22,52. Who are missing here? See 19,39 and 19,47.
For Judas, review the various translations for his proposal. See 9,44 and 18,32.

Verse 5 then describes the response of the chief priests. Note 12,15.
Judas's acceptance follows in verse 6. Look forward to 22,22.

Look now at my response.

Preparing the Passover Meal: 22,7-13

Verse 7 is similar to verse 1. In contrast, look at John 13,1. Why are the two evangelists different?

Verses 8 and 9 relate Jesus' instructions to the two disciples.

For verse 10, compare Mk 14,12. What is so unusual about Jesus' instructions?

What is the significance of verse 13?

Time now for a look at my response.

We now continue to our reading of the Passover meal, Lk 22,14-38.
