The lion of St Mark

THE GOSPEL OF MARK

The Longer Ending: MK 16,9-20

The Longer Ending, 16,9-20, has been known from earliest times and accepted as part of the Gospel. It is present in the vast majority of manuscripts, though with two important exceptions. Reading these verses though shows that its style is different to Mark's and its content just recalls the other Gospels.
Here, I will just record the references which show how these verse draw on a wide range of NT traditions.

Verses 9-11 Mary Magdelene and the seven demons: Lk 8,2.
The appearance recalls Jn 20,14-18
The refusal to believe: Lk 24,10-11

Verses 12-13 recall the disciples going to Emmaus, Lk 24,13-35

Verse 14 recalls Lk 24,36-43. Also John 20,19-23.
