The Gospel of Mark
Chapter 7: Overview
Chapter 7 opens with a new beginning because the Pharisees and scribes make their appearance in verse 1. The chapter ends in verse 37 with praise of Jesus. This is followed with another beginning in 8,1 which opens with the phrase "In those days".
The other two breaks in the chapter mark Jesus' trip to Tyre: he goes to the region in verse 24 and he leaves in verse 31. We will be considering this trip in more detail in due course. We can note for now that Jesus is in Gentile territory from 7,24 into the following chapter.
The journey with its two incidents therefore gives us the second and third pages for our reading: 7,24-30 and 7,31-37. (We will see that there is a case for reading them together on the same page.)
The first page, 7,1-23, is a more complex passage. We will look at that during our reading.
We return to the main page so as to begin our reading.
