The man of St Matthew

THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW

THE PASSION AND RESURRECTION

Chapter 27: Reading Plan

As the story of the Passion is told in both chapters 26 and 27, we made our overview of the two chapters together. There we noted that major division in the story comes at 27,11 where the story changes from a Jewish to a Roman setting and Jesus stands before the governor.

This is followed by the soldiers taking charge of Jesus in verse 27.

The other markers in the chapter are the references to time in verses 45 and 57. From what we discovered in the overview, We will read the death and burial of Jesus together.

Our reading plan for this chapter therefore is:

We can now begin reading the opening scene, Mt 27,1-10, of this chapter.
